In partnership with the Association of British Riding Schools, the National Horseracing College offers fully-funded Level 3 Senior Equine Groom (Standard) Apprenticeships.
Apprenticeships combine on-the-job training with formal learning opportunities whilst the apprentice receives all the benefits of being a paid employee. Apprentices develop equine-specific skills, knowledge and behaviours as they work through a programme of learning and an individual assessment plan.
Senior Equine Groom Level 3
The Level 3 Apprenticeship, equivalent to A-Levels, is the perfect course for those age 16+ who wish to advance their existing practical skills and to acquire the skills required to co-ordinate the day-to-day care of horses and to manage a team in the workplace.
With the option for the course to be tailored to different equine specialisms, including riding and yard-based (non-riding), this course provides an opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience and professional qualifications whilst earning a salary and receiving all employee benefits.
Typically, the Level 3 Apprenticeship will take 18 – 24 months to achieve and will be completed largely at the learner’s place of work using blended learning, including face-to-face visits with a designated tutor and remote learning.
An End Point Assessment (EPA) completes the Apprenticeship. The EPA involves practical assessments, written tests, professional discussions and a review of evidence.
Entry Requirements
To apply for a Level 3 Apprenticeship, applicants must be age 16+, have completed full-time education and be living in England. Applicants must have achieved a Level 2 qualification in Horse Care OR possess the equivalent, practical equine experience.
Applicants who haven’t already achieved a GCSE grade 9/A – 4/C or a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in English and Maths, will develop English and Maths Functional Skills at Level 2 as part of the Apprenticeship programme.
Learners must be in paid employment for the duration of their Apprenticeship programme; learners cannot be self-employed or volunteers. Employers must pay the minimum Apprenticeship wage or more, for a minimum of 15 hours a week.
