In 2011, Lauren Sanders from Barnsley was just 17 years old and wanted to get a real job working in the outdoors and with horses. She signed up for a Foundation Course at the National Horseracing College. Although she’d never ridden a horse before, the College’s short but intense training delivered by expert staff enabled her to learn the skills she needed to look after and to ride racehorses.
As a result, she went straight into a job as a racing groom in a professional trainer’s yard and has never looked back. She’s gained a lot of valuable experience working in the industry since then and returned to the NHC this week on the way to gaining her jockey license to ride competitively in public. The future looks exciting for Lauren and we wish her luck.
