On Tuesday (21 January) our new cohort of students underwent their initial riding assessment. Naturally there are students who have many years experience riding including a couple who are already working in racing yards however there are always a number of students who have never ridden before.
In this short video we follow Mungar (on lead horse) and Abdul who are both new to riding. Mungar, 28, has ridden once before at home in Mauritius and Abdul, 22, from Birmingham has ridden twice before. Essentially they are both complete beginners.
By the end of the lesson they were both starting to feel the rhythm in the rising trot which is no mean feat. Of course they have a long way to go but they will ride six days each week which will quickly amount to a huge number of hours in the saddle. In addition they will spend countless hours working on their balance, technique and fitness on the racehorse simulators. The aim is for them to be competent and confident riding a variety of horses on the gallops in 12 weeks in readiness for them entering the racing industry as racing grooms.
