There aren’t many people who work for the one employer for 21 years (and counting).
James, a graduate of the National Horseracing College in 1997, is a finalist in the Stud and Stable Staff Awards 2020 in the Leadership category.
We travelled to Newmarket to Freemason Lodge, home to an unprecedented number of Group/Graded/Listed flat horses trained by Sir Michael Stoute.
Over the last 21 years James has worked his way up from racing groom to travelling head groom and for the last six years has held the title, Head Groom/Assistant Trainer. During our visit James shared with us how he is feeling ahead of the award ceremony on Monday 24 February.
It was very evident how honoured James feels to be recognised in these prestigious awards which is truly remarkable given all those we spoke to feel honoured themselves to have the opportunity to learn from someone who gives so freely of his time, his knowledge and his expertise.
James ensures all the horses in his care receive the very best and in turn they perform at their very best on the racecourse. He leads by example and offers unwavering support to younger and less experienced members of staff. He openly acknowledges the support he received when he entered the racing industry as a young boy in his early teens and finds it truly satisfying mentoring those who have the good fortunate to work under him.
