“When I went past the finish line everything disappeared out of my mind, I really couldn’t believe I’d won, I couldn’t actually believe it”….
Ask any jockey how it felt riding their first winner and they’ll tell you, without a second’s hesitation, like it happened yesterday. No matter how many years have passed that feeling of euphoria never lessens and the memory never fades.
17 days ago Owen, 18, rode his first winner on the Jedd O’Keeffe Racing owned and trained Rebel State. Winning by a yawning 1¼ lengths under the floodlights on the all-weather track at Newcastle Racecourse Owen made memories which will last a lifetime. With a little bit of luck plenty more winners will follow over the coming years but this one will always hold a very special place in his heart.
